Spartan Village Sustainable Strategies
February 24, 2012
In keeping with UNCG’s values, the development of Spartan Village recognizes the enduring interconnectedness of social equity, the environment, the economy and aesthetics. Therefore, incorporating sustainable strategies in the development process is essential in order to promote justice, to develop innovative solutions to economic and environmental challenges and to invest grace and civility into our community. UNCG has worked diligently to create a transparent design and construction process through engagement and collaboration with residents of the Greater Glenwood Neighborhood, the City of Greensboro, the State of North Carolina Agencies, and the UNCG community. The resulting design and construction process has incorporated many sustainable practices into the development. We invite you to find out more about the specific sustainable practices being incorporated in the development of Spartan Village by visiting Spartan Village Sustainable Strategies.
An independent economic analysis conducted for UNCG estimates that between 2014 and 2023, the Spartan Village will have a combined economic impact of over $590 million (measured in 2011 purchasing power dollars) in new spending in the Greensboro and Guilford County economy. Local property tax revenues are expected to rise by $7.5 million (2011$). Further, the analysis estimates that 945 permanent new jobs will be added, not including the hundreds of jobs directly and indirectly related to the construction of the Village. These results show the Spartan Village will have significant economic implications for the region.
